siblings: oh so imperfectly-perfect creatures on earth

There is always something about these siblings. Ain't it? Remember?? you are so so happy with the new toy that dad got you today but as it comes inside the house, you younger brother or sister wants to break it, hide it, kill it or whatever but do not let you play with it. It is your birthday, you are destined get a new dress and new shoes for the special day, but it is your siblings who get the same importance on YOUR day. Huh!!! Excuse me!!...I AM THE ONE WHO WAS BORN ON THIS DAY!!!! Ahhh..who cares?? Imagine, you are going to have a payjama party with your friends at your home in your room with a little privacy, but hey! what is this? Your younger sibling intrude into your room and do not want to move without the hefty bribe. This is what we all have faced with our imperfect siblings.

Ever wondered why God had problem with me only, when I was happy being with my parents, being the only one loved and then came the DEVIL in my happy life. Just give them anything, be it a toy, your bicycle, your scooter or your laptop, it will not be returned in the same condition as it was handed over.

I remember giving my younger brother the keys of my Kinetic Honda -a scooter (OK YES, I did not like it to be called a scooter or worst, a LUNA...for God sake..nooooo), which were never returned with the key rings I bought with so much of enthusiasm. And then, the same fight with my father over why he let him touch my things. For which, I always got the same cliched answer "you are elder, try to understand". Gosh!! so when can I be younger to not understand sometimes. However, gone are the days of those battles and wars and we have come out mature enough to understand each other.

All of a sudden comes a day that the same ol' IMPERFECT sibling  becomes the treasure of advice in need (what a surprise!!). Also, we feel that we are becoming so overprotective of that one awful creature that this creature turns into the awesome part of our life. They are always just one call away, always there to be with you and sometimes when you need them, they go out of the way to help you with all their sources and strengths, though with a grumble!! Actually, this shows  how much they care and love us that they can't resist helping us even if they have something important of their own to do. I have yet to research on how these IMPERFECT creatures suddenly become so PERFECT especially for your sake that they leave your gobsmacked with the perfectly-done task assigned by you (again with a grumble..lol!!)

And hence, I have awarded them all with a Title - The imperfectly-perfect creatures..Ahhh!! How we love them.

Dedicated to Varun - An imperfectly perfect creature in my life..
No matter what, I am always there for you.

Reading - A Healing Therapy

Friends,

It's been said since ages that "books are the best companions" and I have come to realize this after my own experience. Let me tell you from the beginning how it all happened. I have always been fond of reading. From gossip pages in the newspapers to the spiritual columns to reading the display boards of the shops in the market (sounds funny...huh??). Reading always remained one of my interests. I read things not only for entertainment but for learning and enlightenment as my priority. Oh yeah!! you must be wondering, what did I learn from the display boards!!! Here comes the learning; I learnt about different types of fonts and also sometimes the funny misspellings caught my attention. and tickled my brain.

There came a little change (Or I must say the BIG change) - marriage; and I was almost reading nothing of my interest as i became too engrossed in my new roles of wife and daughter-in-law (and many other relations that exist in a big fat punjabi indian family) to read anything knowledgeable.

Soon after my marriage I did get job as a copy editor in an MNC where i got to read lots of books but that were too subject specific (medical books from US) and hence, it is obvious that I never enjoyed them reading, however, I learnt  a lot. I can say that reading was there but in a very little percentage.

I remember once I reached home after a very hectic day at office and started reading the gossip page in the newspaper. Someone at my home questioned "Don't your eyes tire as you continue reading after almost 7 hours of reading in the office?" this made me ponder over the fact that why do I read so much and the answer came to me was "it makes me relaxed and soothes my nerves". And yes! this is my favorite hobby.

Although now when had already realized that I want to read more, I was still not devoting the required time to it and did not even know what wrong I was doing to myself. My inhibitions, my restrictions, negativity around me  and disappointments were overpowering me. And BAM!!!! came to rescue two of my beautiful friends, Rajminder and Sunaina who were very much into reading novels and kept on discussing their latest reads every now and then in front me. I felt a little left out but that's what inspired me to take up reading AGAIN to get involved into those intellectual talks with my friends. I realized I would need to take out more time for my first love - reading and here I am on the reading spree. There is no spare time I don't give to reading. I read motivational stuff, novels, short stories, spiritual columns, blogs, fitness books, articles and what not??
Reading as a healing therapy has helped me come a winner out of my inhibitions. it has renewed me as a person and has brought back the positivism in me that I was losing, it has showed me the best part in me. For all this to happen, the books I read are carefully chosen for my inner growth. Now, I am a constant learner and it comes by choice and not by force.

For all positive things happening to me by reading, I want to thank my friends Raj and Su for being the inspiration behind my realizing the power of reading. The strange thing is that till now they did not know about it. And now, they will!!

Reading is really healing!!!

Happy reading

My thought of the day

"The ones who were not in my past do not have the right to badmouth my present. For they were never there to pick me up when I fell infinite number of times to reach to my glorious present"

This is for the ones who keep cribbing about others' success while not paying heed to their own failures..people like them remain losers forever...come what may!!!

Need creates creativity

I don't know what will you all call it, but this is  a creative piece made for need. A creative mind can be anywhere and at any time but you need to have a NEED to be creative.
Here, she has a need of something to sleep on and hence she used the resources in the surroundings.
This is one incident i came across while training aa few college students. I gave them a lot of newspapers to make a building out of it without using staplers, glue or tapes. A group of students made a wind mill with those newspapers where a boy was holding the wheel of the wind mill with hands. I rejected it because their windmill wasn't an independent structure as they needed a person to hold the wheel. Here a NEED to win was created for them and they started thinking of some idea to solve this problem.
There was a sikh in this group who was having a pin in his turban which he instantly took out attached the wheel with the paper stick they had made. And then the wheel started rotating.. And so you see how NEED created CREATIVITY.
That is why it is said that necessity (NEED) is the mother of invention.

What say friends??
